Detention Support and Awareness Officer
NJC salary scale point 22, £19,621. Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, for 6 months.
Dover Detainee Visitor Group – a charity supporting immigration detainees in Dover Immigration Removal Centre, and nationwide on release from any removal centre in the UK – is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Detention Support and Awareness Officer, to work at the direction of the Detention Support and Awareness Manager in (1) conducting casework for immigration detainees; (2) coordinating all kinds of legal, practical and emotional support; and (3) assisting with tasks involved in raising awareness of asylum & immigration detention and destitution through social media and, locally, in schools and communities in East Kent.
This vacancy has arisen due to a member of staff taking sabbatical. As such, the position is offered for an initial fixed term contract of six months with the possibility of extension for a further six months.
The successful applicant will be educated to degree level or equivalent, and have experience of working with immigration detainees or other individuals similarly marginalised according to legal, cultural or social status.
